Why CHANCE Matters: Project for a fresh and bold start after 50
To ensure that the CHANCE project truly meets the needs of its audience, the project partners conducted a cross-national survey at the end of 2023. The focus was clear: explore the motivations, challenges, and aspirations of adults aged 50 and above across five partner countries — Slovakia, Czechia, Croatia, Finland, and Ireland.
The survey investigated key questions: Are respondents over 50 and currently in business? Would they like to start their own business someday? Do they feel age is a barrier? Do they believe they have the necessary knowledge and tools to succeed?
The findings were revealing — and motivating.
- 62% of respondents were not currently in business.
- Among those, 54% expressed a desire to start one.
- 34% felt that their age posed a barrier to entrepreneurship.
- Only 37% believed they had sufficient knowledge to start a business.
- Yet an impressive 77% said they would consider launching a business if they had the right tools.
This data confirms a strong interest in entrepreneurship among the 50+ age group — paired with a clear gap in access to knowledge and support. Age may not be a limitation, but the lack of accessible training and resources certainly is.
This is where CHANCE steps in.
The project is designed to empower adults over 50 with the skills, confidence, and tools to start their own entrepreneurial journey. Whether it is launching a business, pivoting into a new career, or exploring freelance work, CHANCE project aims to provide targeted support through designing a tailored training program.
At the heart of the Erasmus+ CHANCE project is the development of a comprehensive MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) — a freely accessible platform delivering essential knowledge and practical skills for aspiring late entrepreneurs. With 6 expert partners from 5 European countries, all bringing a wealth of experience in business, education, and working with older adults, CHANCE is built on both insight and impact. Project goals will be achieved through to the cooperation of the following project partners:
- Comenius University Bratislava (Slovakia)
- Newton University (Czechia)
- Regional Innovation and Development Agency (Slovakia)
- Algebra Bernays University (Croatia)
- Savonia University of Applied Sciences (Finland)
- Údarás na Gaeltachta (Ireland)
Kick off meeting was held in online environment on 27th June 2025 when project partners discussed project timeline, upcoming project activities and details of project implementation. Project will last for 36 months. Partners started with implementation of first project activities and will be informing about the progress regularly.
The message is clear: It’s never too late to start something new — especially with the right support!
