Motivation and relevance of the project

To examine the needs of project’s target group and confirm the necessity of implementing the project such as the CHANCE project, at the end of 2023 project partners have undertaken a survey on adults in the 50+ group across all 5 partner countries (Slovakia, Czechia, Croatia, Finland and Ireland). Mainly, the survey examined whether: the respondents are over 50 and in business or not, they would like to start a business at some point, they think their age is a barrier to starting a business, they believe they have all the knowledge and tools to start a business.

The findings revealed that 62% of respondents are not in business with 54% of those not in business wanting to start a business. Moreover, 34% respondents believe their age is a barrier to starting a business and only 37% said they believe they have enough knowledge to start a business. Significantly, 77% said that with the right tool they would consider starting a business. Based on this data, it is evident that there is a current interest in learning about entrepreneurship among the project’s target group, with the understanding that they do not have the means to learn about it, which is a main barrier.

The CHANCE project aims to improve the competencies and skills of adults in the 50+ group through a tailored training program to start their own entrepreneurial projects, pursue a career change, or work as freelancers. The project’s main objective is to create a MOOC that covers all the necessary information and skills for late entrepreneurs. The project involves 6 partners from 5 European countries with extensive experience in business, education or through contact with the target group.

Project’s main result

The implementation of the CHANCE project will result in the creation of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) specifically tailored to the needs of adults aged 50+ interested in late entrepreneurship. The MOOC will be created based on the findings of the research conducted by the project team. It is expected to be a comprehensive learning resource covering all the necessary information for late entrepreneurs. Additionally, the project aims to pilot the MOOC with at least 350 participants, collecting their feedback to ensure that the MOOC remains relevant and up-to-date.
