Algebra Bernays University (ABU) is the flagship of the largest private educational organization in Republic of Croatia and the region, present in almost 30 cities across Croatia. ABU is a private accredited higher educational institution active in the fields of computer engineering, digital arts and economy. ABU currently has more than 15.000 students enrolled annually in its different programmes, fully employing more than 250 teachers and support staff, with additional more than 600 associated experts employed in the industry. ABU is the first private university in Technical Sciences in Croatia. For the provision of innovative projects aiming to attract more secondary school students to STEM, ABU was awarded Partner of the year 2014 – best Microsoft educational partners award (out of 3200 institutions globally).
ABU received an award for a highly efficient internal quality assurance system (Certificate) in 2012 and again in 2018. Joint graduate study programme Internet of Things proposed by ABU and EPITECH (France) was accredited by applying the European Approach for Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes (2021) for the first time in Croatia by ASHE. ABU has experience in almost 30 EU funded projects as a consortium partner or leading organization during the past decade.
Additionally, ABU provides teaching programmes in various programmes, for children, as well as for adults, as it pursues the mission of life-long learning. It is the only educational institution in Croatia, which offers educational programmes for children from the age of 6, all the way to adults in the age of 60+, upskilling their existing competences. ABU is very active in production of digital learning content for various demographic groups as well as in running Algebra LAB startup incubation programme where entrepreneurial ideas are supported and shaped, and later on pushed towards further development on the market.

Marko Kovačić
Marko Kovačić, PhD, is a research fellow and assistant professor in public policy. He co-authored four books, written more than 20 scholarly articles, and acted as a project manager in 15, and as a researcher in additional 20 projects focusing on youth or education. He is a founder and lecturer at the first academic youth studies program in Croatia, run at the University of Rijeka. Mr. Kovačić is a national correspondent for youth for the European Commission and Council of Europe and he was a Youth Wiki correspondent for Croatia. In the last ten years, he has been engaged in most national and European youth and education policy processes. Mr. Kovačić’s education includes a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Graz, a PhD in public policy from the University of Ljubljana, accompanied with two MAs – one in political science from Central European University in Budapest and another one in public policy from the University of Zagreb, where he also acquired his BA in political science. He was a visiting researcher at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.
Dejan Gluvačević
Dejan Gluvačević, PhD, is an assistant professor in communication studies. He holds a PhD in communication science and actively cooperates with media and PR agencies across Croatia.
Katarina Leko
Katarina Leko, MA, is a project manager and head of communication. With over 20 years of experience, Katarina was managing almost all major PR campaigns in Croatia and has been having a longstanding relation to media. After being a general director in one of Croatian biggest PR companies, she continued her career joining the ABU dealing with media and communications.
